Nice one, love the sky, makes a change from all the water shots.

Do the trees look a little cut out against the sky on account of the different contrast?

  2. No idea about the trees, I used my 70-200 lens for this maybe that had something to do with it ?
All I really did in the post process was tone down the greens a little with a tiny bit desat and added a little warming layer to the land area other than that its pretty much how it came out using a .9 and .6 grad. .6 was used on the sky and .9 upside down on the grass as the light was very bright against the dark skies.
Or it could of been .6 on the grass and .9 on the skies cant really remember now, but I did reverse one grad.

    nice shot mate ,
Love the sky in it very contrasty .
Was this taken this weekend ?

  4. mel says:

Really nice shot is this local?

  5. Yep Kirk taken while driving round like a mad man trying to snap pics find locations and answer my phone LOL.

Location Mel ? not to sure but I just drove and drove and drove down South West Hwy taking back streets left and right exploring, it was more of a scouting outing than shoot. I really only took this as prep work for another image I want to take.

But VERY happy with the 70-200 lens I have only used it once before on a stitched image and both times I have been more than happy with the results. Anyone want a 24-70 lens …. Just kidding 🙂

  6. isn’t that a song lyric?

  7. The man knows his music.

Takes me back a bit …nothing like a bit of Iron Maiden!!

  9. jamiepatersonphotography says:

Weren’t they here recently? Did you go and see them?

  10. dylanfox says:

Personally can’t deal with iron maiden! But I can deal with this photo! I love these moments when the light peeks through a hole in the clouds!
    Great stuff

  11. great shot. lovely light on the hills.

  12. Certainly did Jamie 🙂

  14. Mel says:

Hey Neal are you still going out on sundayfor a shoot? If so keep in touch am still keen to go on sunday moring.Mel:)

  15. I’m thinking sunday later afternoon at bells rapids.

  16. Mel says:

Ok that will be fine. What time were you thinking?

  17. I’m thinking round the 4.30pm

  18. Mel says:

Ok cool, Jayne and i will meet you there and if anything changes let me know.

  19. Well went down to Bells Rapids today to scout out a few locations and was quite disappointed. Lots of foam and brown muddy water. Maybe if there are some fresh rains or something over the next few weeks it may prove to be better photographic opportunity, but as it stands right now there is not much scope for a nice photograph. So I don’t think I will make another trip down there Sunday.

Anyone else know of any good water spots (River) to photograph?

  20. jamiepatersonphotography says:

    Hi Neal,

I was out and about today as well and didn’t see anything good to photograph riverwise. 😦

    Jamie Paterson

  21. Mel says:

yeah that white foam is not good. What about Serpentine falls?Haven’t been there for years dont know what it’s like now.

  22. I’m thinking a trip to Nannup when I get back.

  23. Jayne says:

Hi Neal, Just spoke to Mel on the phone, she’s renovating at her new house and not on the net there yet. What about a local river location such as Matilda Bay?

  24. Hi Jayne

There are a couple of spots on the river I scouted out earlier this year for shoots ( one of which I am waiting on nearby flowers to bloom and another for a nice red sunset.

I don’t think I will be going out for a shoot this afternoon unless we have a blinder of a sunset I will shot up to Mindarie or similar as its very close. I have a weeks shooting coming up very soon in NSW and will spend the time doing a little more research on locations for the trip.

Would love to hit the river when I get back with you guys and Jamie and Kirk again

  25. Jayne says:

No problems Neal. Have a great trip away, hope we get to see some of your photos on your blog when you get back. Will catch up then.

  26. jamiepatersonphotography says:

    HI Neal,

I hope you have a great trip over East. I’m sure Kirk and I would love to catch up again for a shoot.

    Mel,

Maybe you Kirk and I could catch up at the Mosman Bay boatshed and try something there. Now that I’ve got my filters I’m really looking forward to having another go at that place.

    Jamie

  27. Jayne says:

Hi Jamie, Yes, Mosman Bay would be great. My last photos there weren’t that great either. Mel and I will be there around 4.

  28. Mel says:

Mel is home, back online and packing her camera gear.See you all there at 4 🙂

  29. jamiepatersonphotography says:

Uummm Mel and Jayne, my sincere apologies. I meant next weekend. Please don’t think I stood you guys up on purpose.

  30. jamiepatersonphotography says:

So following on from my last paragraph. If you two are keen to catch up somewhere next weekend let me know. After spending the past couple of weekend climbing hill sides and over rocks a beach shoot would be really nice. Not sure where you and Jayne live but I found some nice spots around the Pt Perron area.

  31. Mel says:

No worries that is ok.I am really busy for the next few weekends as i am moving house but you never know i may be able to find some time.Let me know when and where and i would love to catch up.Ended up meeting with Clint and Jayne for a coffe and took a couple of shots might post them later.Don’t feel bad these things happen.See you soon:)
