Mindarie Beach

During the past week we managed to scrap in 2 very nice sunsets one of which was pretty damn red. Toning this down to keep the reds from blowing out was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. Shooting directly into the sun was also a challenge, I have seen McNeal and Adams do it all the time and quite do not know how they come away with the results they do, but here is my shot at something similar . Maybe the Perth sun is just to fierce compared the the sunsets in Oregon and Alaska. I’ll be better prepared next time.

  1. Great capture, those clouds are amazing, and when they light up on fire like that it’s easy to burn the red channel. In shots like these the red channel blows out at least 2 stops before the other channels. The RGB histogram on the 5D is your best friend here, so you can keep checking the red channel!

Is it me or is that horizon juuuust a bit crooked to the right? 🙂

    Hi Neal,

I love the three different bands of colour. I’m glad you managed to scramble down the rocks and get to this shot before it disappeared! The composition I think works very well.

  3. Very nice, Neal.

Flemming may be right.. You can’t get away with crooked horizons while he is around!

Beautiful cloud. Shooting into the sun is a pain but you have controlled the sun on the horizon well. I just bought myself the Lee ND hard grads and they are great. Going to have to save up for the reverse grads.

Very nice shot Neal! How did the stitching go?

I watched saturdays sunset from the motorplex and sundays from a bbq! So I have done any landscapes lately, but will hopefully be back out there soon!
