Lake Tahoe Sunset

Well all good things must come to an end …. for the time being that is šŸ™‚

Spent the last few weeks driving round Northern California shooting locations from San Francisco across to Yosemite National Park and up to and near the Oregon/California State Line. Although this particular image was taken in Nevada … Spent a couple of hours this morning scanning through the raw files and I have a ton of them, more than first thought and a few captures I had almost forgotten I had taken.

Hard to know what set of images to start the post production work on, there are so many, from the time I landed we (Luke) dropped our bags at the motel and pretty much headed straight out to the first location on my list, to visiting the most beautiful place I have ever seen with Brian (see new header) and those gorgeous falls colors I had the privilege of seeing for the first time with Leon. So many locations some spent with 3 very cool photographers and some traveled alone. Tons of memories of being in the wilderness, I wish I could do it every month …. If your ever up round the Northern California way, check out Burger Barn just off Interstate 5. Brian those burgers are just too damn close to your home and we are still talking 50 miles ….

BEST BURGER ON THE PLANET PERIOD, END OF ARGUMENT! and I have eaten a shit load of burgers in my time, nothing comes close to this lady’s fare. I had 2 šŸ™‚

bestburgers

Spent a couple of photo op sessions at this particular location. Some with nice blue skies, white clouds with clear water and some with a fiery late sunset. I had been looking for this location for some time and finally found it. No where the steep hike down and up that I tried in 2008 when I came across the area, although the hike up in the dark is a little hairy.

Stunning blue skies and wispy white clouds during the day, fiery orange sky by evening, what more do you need … I may have a few images from this location for the portfolio as the light was changing so fast I have many alternative povs and colors …

  1. Ripper photo, Neal. Sharp as, sweet comp, great lighting. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Neat shot Neal, the water level marks on the rocks indicate that the lake must fluctuate in volume. Beaut sunset.

Anything can beat the McDonalds Angus burgers!

Beautiful shot Neal! I still love the Lake Tahoe one you took that I have on my wall, but it sounds as though you have captured the many moods and lighting of the same area this time around. Magic spot. I also love the waterfall photo at the top of your blog – that would be magic to have right across one wall.

  4. What a gorgeous spot and image there Neil. Has your trademark calm clean look to it, very serene. Look forward to much more and I gotta try those burgers when I am in the neighbourhood!

  5. Thanks Beau – thats a very nice compliment …

Thanks Thomas – End of summer early fall the Lake is at its lowest level. Sunset was very nice a little on the harse side but beggars can not be choosers …

Thanks Julie – Yep this spot is just around a km south of the one you have hanging on your wall … The header image is going in my lounge as a 90 inch pano, its so freakin cool can not wait to get it printed this week …

Thanks Flem – It is a wonderful place that I have seen and photographed 3 times now, each time it has been very different. They are so good I could go 2 right about now. They are nothing fancy, just really well made, think of the best most perfect picture of a burger you have seen, and that how this lady serves them. She must take great pride in her work.

  6. Neal,

What can I say? Its good to see more Spool imagery up again. Its looks a very peaceful and relaxing place to be. I love the gold reflection off the water.

  7. very beautiful Neal.
love those rocks, and stunning colours.

you’re makin me hungry too šŸ™‚

  8. Thanks Jamie – yeah about time I had a new image or 2 up … I have a lot of different looks from this place but this one caught my eye first because as you said the water reflection … Had to tone it down a little in the right hand corner though …

Thanks Stephen … You and me both. I need to hunt down a feed very soon …

So your mission finally came to an end. You must have been knackered by the time you finally got home.
Stunning image to kick it off mate, nicely balance composition.

  10. Thanks Luke – Yeah I guess all travels must end sometime. I had a blast shooting with you. I look forward to shooting with you again ( so stay in Canada ) and seeing your images …. I think my next post could be that cloudy fog filled evening we where up the top of Yosemite looking through the valley, could be a really nice B&W …

Yeah was a little tired when I returned home … Last few days in SF was as struggle to get out of bed each morning, but a couple of those expresso creams in a can and BANG your good to go šŸ™‚ Still can not come to terms with V8 juice out of a can, just does not seem right …

I have been off the net for a bit, so am just catching up, but your shots from your trip are brilliant. The colours in this one are amazing, almost surreal and the composition works very well. Love it.

  13. Thanks Michael, this place has been on my hit list fir a couple of years, so it was nice to come away with a few keepers.
